My Melanin Poppin’ Skincare Routine

skincare.JPG

In isolation, there’s so much that has fallen off! Though I’ve been having withdrawals from the spa, nail salon, brow salon, and hair salon, I realized that there were some things that I could control and do for demonstrative self-care! In effort to keep my spirit up and love on me, I’ve stayed committed to my skincare routine and can appreciate the results!

After a few of my friends inquired about my routine, I decided to share it publicly. In this post, I’ll share the entire process + products that work for ME. Each step includes products in both saving and splurging budgets.

NOTE: Most of these products can be used for all skin types. My skin is normal to dry, so be sure to research these products in light of your skin type and see what will work best for you!

Let’s get into it!

Step 1: Cleanse

  • Cleansing is the obvious, initial step!

  • You’re doing great if you’re using a cleanser along with warm water to remove dirt/buildup from your skin. Just sing your personal song of the day! (It’s best practice to cleanse your face for at least 60 seconds.)

  • If you want to step it up, try using a facial steamer both before and while you cleanse. This increases the blood circulation in your skin and increases the effectiveness of removing dirt and oils from your pores.

Products: Youth To The People - Superfood Antioxidant Cleanser (splurge), Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash (save)

Step 2: Exfoliate (twice a week)

Step 3: Use Facial Mist

Step 4: Apply Antioxidant Serum

  • The use of serums should be targeted toward your skin needs: aging/fine lines , dark spots, acne, etc.

  • My personal skin goal is for my skin to be luminous and clear. As I have hyperpigmentation, I’ve chosen Vitamin C Serum as my antioxidant serum of choice.

Products: Sunday Riley - C.E.O. 15% Vitamin C Brightening Serum (splurge), Mad Hippie - 20% Vitamin C Serum (save)

Step 5: Apply Eye Cream

Step 6: Apply Moisturizer

  • I didn’t find out until last year that the moisture in our skin diminishes throughout the day. As moisture is the key component in sustaining youthful skin, it’s important to have a moisturizer that effectively nourishes your skin and locks in moisture.

  • The best time to apply moisture is when your skin is still damp, not wet.

  • Most moisturizer products outline the appropriate skin type per product (oily, normal, combination, or dry), so you should be able to find what’s right for you!

  • If you don’t remember anything else, please know that body moisturizers are not for your face! They are for your body ONLY. Your face moisturizers should be applied your face.

  • Don’t forget to add your face moisturizer to your neck!

Products: ALGENIST GENIUS Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream (splurge), Boscia - Chia Seed Moisture Cream (save)

Step 7: Apply Sunscreen

Bonus Step: Put the Icing on the Cake (Beauty Mask)

Well, that is my flourishing skin routine! It’s extensive, but it works! These simple steps go a long way in taking care of you! Feel free to tailor your process for what works best for skin type and skin needs.

Let me know if you’d like me to share my favorite glow products!

Stay fabulous,
